Caleah
Caleah is last but not least and currently still wanting a home. She's mini but mighty at just a little over 3 pounds. Caleah had slow weight gain as a neonate and at about 3 weeks when they started learning to walk, she was clumsier than the average puppy, often falling and flailing as she tried to right herself. While she is still small, her weight gain has improved as well as her movement and coordination. I do expect her to stay fairly small unless she has an unexpected growth spurt. My guess is 12-15 pounds.
Caleah exhibited signs of Cerebellar Ataxia. There are multiple causes but Cerebellar Hypoplasia (shortened to CH for ease of typing) is what is reported on her health record. The diagnosis is based completely on symptoms. There are exceptional signs of improvement as she adapts. Cerebellar hypoplasia in dogs is a non-progressive neurological condition where the cerebellum—the part of the brain responsible for balance and coordination—fails to fully develop before birth or shortly after. Symptoms include a wobbly gait, head tremors, stiff leg movements, and eye flicking. While she exhibited some of these signs from 3-7 weeks, it is now barely noticeable. There is no cure. Underdeveloped brain tissue cannot grow back, but the condition is not degenerative, meaning it will NOT get worse over time. CH dogs adapt well and live happy, pain-free lives with normal life expectancy and good quality of life. My vet indicated she felt there was much improvement since her first vet visit and noted her physical exam at 9 weeks as "normal" as it is largely unnoticeable. Basically, if I didn't tell people, they would never know. But you all know me; Full disclosure is my moto!
Dogs with CH do not have pain but may find it difficult to navigate stairs or uneven ground. However, Caleah, is currently doing everything that all of my puppies do, including the ramp to the dog door, jumping off 6-8" ledges, the wobble board, and easily navigating obstacles without any more difficulty or clumsiness than the average puppy. She is probably the most bold, confident, and feisty of the group. While high level agility titles might not be in her future, she is expected to be a normal, happy pet that makes her family smile.
Due to the non-progressive nature and the fact that CH is not linked to any other health issues, she comes with the same health warranty and price as all of my puppies.
