RETIRED DOGS

I believe that at some point each dog here deserves the chance to no longer be part of a "crowd" and live out their remaining years as a wonderful pet. It's sad to have to tell that retired show dog, who loved being in the ring, that they have to stay home and to see their face as we pack up and take others out the door and leave them behind. Or see that girl that has always been the most wonderful mother, pine after a new litter that isn't hers. If I didn't place "retired" dogs, at some point I would be a hoarder and not be able to continue to breed and properly care for my dogs.
That in no way means it's easy! In fact, it's usually much harder than saying goodbye to a puppy. When a litter is born, I know that I am not keeping most of them or possibly any of them. However, the adults have most likely been born here and have been part of our lives for several years.  There is always a touch of sadness as they drive away, which is eventually followed by happiness when I hear how much they are loved and enjoyed by their new family.

Retired dogs are NOT free, cheap, or "first come, first served".

Unless otherwise noted, retired dogs are:
Spayed/Neutered
Dental cleaning with any needed extractions
Up to date on core vaccines
30 day happiness guarantee
1 year health warranty
Crate trained
Doggy door trained
Walk on a leash
Easy to groom
Will need some work for house training
Require a meet and greet from all interested families

Typically priced between $800-$1200 depending on the dog. If it is a young dog that has not officially entered the program yet or has produced limited litters and/or been shown to a Champion title, they will be priced similar to a puppy.

I determine the family that I think is the best fit for each retiree. They have all earned a bliss-filled retirement and I want to do my best to make the right match. While I prefer homes within Ohio in the event it's not the right match and they need to be returned, it is not a must as long as you are willing to do the meet and greet and understand you may have to make a second trip to come back if you are chosen. While my adult dogs are used to Irene, I typically will not place my older dogs with families that have multiple younger children under 10 years of age (visiting kids are fine but not full-time). If it is a single child I may make an exception but will need to see how they interact with dogs. Retired dogs are always offered to the Waitlist and previous Belle Vista owners before being offered to the public.

Wags is asking Santa for a family all his own for Christmas. There is absolutely nothing wrong with him but I find myself with 5 stud dogs which I certainly do not need so some tough decisions needed to be made. My newest future stud, Manny, is Wags' half brother and I do not need two boys that are that closely related. He will be 3 years old at the end of February and is an AKC champion, only a hair over 13" and about 16 compact little pounds. He is a very light silver salt and pepper. Crate trained, leash trained (although he will pull if you don’t get after him), easy to groom, and rides well in the car. He's an energetic little dude that craves a family to play and dote on him. I find that he's frustrated in the kennel setup and shows his displeasure by barking a lot. When he's in, he is content and quiet. He will need work with housetraining but he's very handler focused and food motivated so I don't expect it to be difficult. He does also wear a belly band if necessary.

Wags has never shown any fear of strangers. He's great with Irene but has not been exposed to babies/toddlers. He can be too bold for some dogs and he comes across as aggressive/dominant but he's in the yard with three other boys and they are constantly playing chase and wrestling without there being a fight. He was neutered on October 11th. His pre-surgery blood work was good and he tested clear for Heartworm and Lyme. Core vaccinations are up to date until March 2026. He had a clear eye exam with an Ophthalmologist and heart exam with a Cardiologist in March and both passed OFA. He has a very mild murmur that was checked with an echocardiogram. It is an "innocent murmur" and a copy of the results is pictured below in his slideshow. It is so mild that many vets haven't even found it on exam. The vet that performed his intake for the neuter did not catch it. I've even had the same Vet hear it on one exam and not hear it on another exam.

All adult dogs come with a 30 day happiness period and a one year health warranty for heritable/congenital issues. His fee, including sales tax, is $2000

I'm ready to start doing interviews to try and match him with the best home.
